    1. Congress allocated billions in extra immigration funding. No reason, in an environment in which we as a state are “doing more with less”, to rush into spending $18 million is we don’t have a signed deal in which we get reimbursed. Tell them we are shovel ready and just awaiting that check to show up.

Because, if the Fed stiff us, I can guarantee the response won’t be that we need to raise some tax to make up the difference.

  1. Laudable goal Mr Governor, but when you’re dealing with this administration I would insist on it in writing before saddling us Hoosiers with the cost of more of their stunts.

    1. I would insist on an immediate bank transfer of the full amount before lifting one finger. If the feds want new construction, let them build it themselves, illegal immigrant detention is NOT a state function.

  2. As a taxpayer, I am sickened by our state spending our money to foster the cruelty that feeds the percieved need to create Dachau on the Wabash.

We are Hoosiers. We take great pride in our hospitality, our generosity, our willingness to welcome newcomers, and our collective desire to live our lives under the influence of our better angels, and not our darker ones.

I beleive that history will view our internment and expulsion of Immigrants who came here seeking a better life as a dark chapter in our history, on par with our state being run by the Klan in the 1920s.

We are just better than that.

    1. Thank God we have an administration devoted to protecting us from criminal ILEGAL aliens, which of course is the job of the Fedeal government. Why can’t these lefties get it?

    2. Interested in hearing about all of the crimes John has made up in his head that these hard-working folks who have in some cases been here since childhood have committed

    3. Good Job E. You hit all the lib’s talking points. Nazi’s, KKK what next Satan? No Libs don’t believe in that make believe religious stuff. Carry On. Funny how we are being told the divisive language is coming from the right. LOL.

    1. Is that directed at everyone, or just those who left their war-torn, criminal gang infested homelands where evil is supported and armed by illegal weapons exports from the US, in the hopes of finding a new life where they could work and raise families and live in peace.

So I applaud the idea of sorting them out…but if you do, I think the MAGAts will be dismayed to learn most of the folks they have or plan to deport were the working folks…

Beyond those Hossier values, and the values taught by Jesus Christ, I often come back during these discussions to a plaque on a statue in a harbor…

Not like the brazen giant of Greek fame,
      With conquering limbs astride from land to land;
Here at our sea-washed, sunset gates shall stand
A mighty woman with a torch, whose flame
Is the imprisoned lightning, and her name
Mother of Exiles. From her beacon-hand
Glows world-wide welcome; her mild eyes command
The air-bridged harbor that twin cities frame.

“Keep, ancient lands, your storied pomp!” cries she
With silent lips. “Give me your tired, your poor,
Your huddled masses yearning to breathe free,
The wretched refuse of your teeming shore.
Send these, the homeless, tempest-tost to me,
I lift my lamp beside the golden door!”

I learned that poem in grade school…and while I probably can’t recite it any longer (alas, I’ve gotten older and other things occupy my mind…) the words ring out today as truly as they did when Lady Liberty was enthroned on her pedestal in New York Harbor. Want to make America great again, Mr. Trump. It isn’t done by throwing out the huddled masses yearing to be free. The Nativists tried that, with the Irish and other groups. And because the Nativists, the apparent inspiration for the MAGAts, lost out, America became the GREATEST NATION ON EARTH.

  3. I’m certain Christi Noem will have no hesitation in writing a check for $15.8 million to make this happen. This should not be an expense for the taxpayers of Indiana.

  4. By the time the facility is upgraded, the “bad hombres” will be deported and the border secured. So then what happens to the fancy facility? The for-profit company running the facility will need more bodies to keep making money. Who will those people be?
They have already run out of enough gang members to make their quota so they are seizing South Korean engineers and putting them in shackles.
