Fast-growing contractor Gemco acquires Carmel firm

Indianapolis-based Gemco Constructors LLC has acquired Carmel-based Real Mechanical Inc., the contractors announced.

Financial terms of the deal, which closed Friday, were not disclosed.

Fast-growing Gemco, a 5-year-old mechanical, electrical, plumbing, building-automation systems and service contractor based at 6525 Guion Road, has 158 employees.

Real Mechanical, founded in 1978, offers mechanical contracting services for industrial, commercial, retail, manufacturing, health care and education facilities. Its 28 employees will be retained.

Both companies will retain their names.

Gemco, which has handled projects in 32 states, reported revenue of $23.4 million n 2018, up 43% from 2016, making it one of the area’s fastest-growing companies.

Gemco Principal Bill Bates told IBJ earlier this year that its biggest challenge is finding workers, something the acquisition of Real will help it address.
