Subscribe NowA 132-year-old organization that serves people who are homeless, a ministry that assists abused and neglected youth and a recovery program for women struggling with addiction are among the top honorees in IBJ’s inaugural Nonprofit Excellence Awards presented by KSM CPA & Advisors.
Wheeler Mission, Lutheran Child and Family Services of Indiana/Kentucky and Dove Recovery House for Women will be honored at an event on Aug. 5 as nonprofit of the year in the large, medium and small categories, respectively.
The National FFA Foundation will be honored as the foundation of the year.
Kent Kramer, CEO and president of Goodwill of Central & Southern Indiana, will be presented with the nonprofit executive of the year award, and Mary Gibble, CEO and president of Community Foundation of Hancock County, will be honored as the foundation executive of the year.
Taggart Birge, CEO of Cornerstone Cos., will be honored as philanthropist of the year and Gretchen Sides as volunteer of the year for her work with Brightlane Learning.
Eleven other organizations and four companies will be honored at the Nonprofit Excellence Awards event, which will begin with networking at 3:30 p.m. at the Indiana Roof Ballroom. The awards program will begin at 4 p.m. with a cocktail reception following at 5:30 p.m.

IBJ’s Nonprofit Excellence Awards presented by KSM CPA & Advisors recognize organizations and partners that are making an impact in central Indiana, with an emphasis on programming and efforts in the past two years.
A judging panel considered nearly 200 nominations across 11 categories. The winners of the nonprofit of the year awards and foundation of the year award will receive cash prizes. All of the winners will be profiled in a special publication that will be distributed at the event and included in the Aug. 8 issue of IBJ.
