Indiana counts 897 new COVID-19 cases, 27 more deaths

The Indiana State Department of Health on Saturday reported 897 new cases of COVID-19, the fifth time cases have been below 1,000 over the past seven days.

The state also reported 27 new deaths due to the coronavirus. Reported deaths due to COVID-19 have exceeded single digits in 138 of the past 139 days.

The department said 5,996 new individuals were tested Thursday. The state said it added 96 historic tested individuals and 18 historical cases to the cumulative count.

Statewide hospitalizations due to COVID-19 rose from 781 on Thursday to 800 on Friday. The high mark was 3,460, set on Nov. 30.

The state said more than 552,000 Hoosiers had been fully vaccinated against COVID-19 as of Saturday at 5 a.m. More than 981,000 had received the first dose of a vaccination.

Following are the latest COVID-19 numbers from the Indiana State Department of Health. The department updates its data daily based on information received through 11:59 p.m. the previous day.

** The health department reports the 7-day positivity rates with a six-day lag to allow time for more comprehensive results.

*New cases, deaths and tests are previously unreported cases, deaths and tests submitted to the Indiana State Health Department in the 24 hours through 11:59 p.m. the previous day. The cases and testing categories typically contain numerous duplicates—as many as 20% or more—that are later eliminated from the cumulative totals.
