The Indiana State Department of Health on Thursday reported 878 new COVID-19 cases—the largest number of new cases in the department’s daily report in more than two months. The last time the count was so high was May 20, when 929 new cases were reported.

The 7-day moving average of daily cases has risen from 216 to 583 since the beginning of the month.

Statewide hospitalizations due to COVID-19 ticked down from 557 on Tuesday to 551 on Wednesday. The pandemic high mark for hospitalizations was 3,460, set on Nov. 30.

The health department reported one more death from COVID-19, raising the cumulative total to 13,535. The state said it has averaged one new death per day from COVID over the past seven days.

The state did not have its vaccine dashboard updated on Thursday. The previous day’s numbers said more than 2.9 million Hoosiers have been fully vaccinated against COVID-19. More than 2.87 million have received the first dose of a two-dose vaccination.
