The Indiana State Department of Health on Thursday reported 31 more deaths from COVID-19, bringing the pandemic total in the state to 15,165.

The seven-day moving average of new deaths remained at 28 per day, the health department said.

The department reported 3,482 new cases of COVID-19, up from 2,888 cases the previous day.

Statewide hospitalizations due to COVID-19 decreased from 2,129 on Tuesday to 2,055 on Wednesday, the department said. That’s the lowest number in more than a month. About 26% of Indiana’s intensive care unit beds are occupied by COVID patients.

More than 3.26 million Hoosiers had been fully vaccinated against COVID-19 as of Thursday at 5 a.m., after an increase of 2,467. Department statistics say 59.5% of Indiana residents 18 and older are now fully vaccinated.

The state released the latest statistics for so-called breakthrough cases, hospitalizations and deaths on Thursday, reflecting data through Sept. 26. The numbers, which are updated weekly, showed that 39,176 Hoosiers who had been fully vaccinated against COVID-19 have since tested positive for the virus, while 845 required hospitalization and 334 died. The average age of a breakthrough death was 79 years old.
