Indiana reports 593 new COVID-19 cases, 22 more deaths

The Indiana State Department of Health on Tuesday reported 593 new cases of COVID-19, the 11th time in the past 12 days in which daily cases have been below 1,000.

The state reported also 22 new deaths due to the coronavirus. The department said 3,303 new individuals were tested.

Statewide hospitalizations due to COVID-19 decreased from 635 on Sunday to 628 on Monday, the lowest number since July 5. The high mark was 3,460, set on Nov. 30.

The state said more than 724,000 Hoosiers had been fully vaccinated against COVID-19 as of Tuesday at 5 a.m. More than 1.15 million had received the first dose of a vaccination.

Following are the latest COVID-19 numbers from the Indiana State Department of Health. The department updates its data daily based on information received through 11:59 p.m. the previous day.

Cumulative positivity rate all tests: 9.7%

Seven-day positivity rate all tests: 3.1%**

** The health department reports the 7-day positivity rates with a six-day lag to allow time for more comprehensive results.

Indiana intensive care unit usage

Available ICU beds: 40.5 %

ICU beds in use by COVID-19 patients: 4.6%

Available ventilators: 81.4%

Ventilators in use for COVID-19: 1.7%

*New cases, deaths and tests are previously unreported cases, deaths and tests submitted to the Indiana State Health Department in the 24 hours through 11:59 p.m. the previous day. The cases and testing categories typically contain numerous duplicates—as many as 20% or more—that are later eliminated from the cumulative totals.
