Indiana reports 919 more COVID cases, 16 additional deaths

The Indiana State Department of Health on Wednesday reported 919 new cases of COVID-19. Daily cases have been below 1,000 for 19 of the past 20 days.

The state also reported 16 new deaths due to the coronavirus. The department said 5,299 new individuals were tested.

Statewide hospitalizations due to COVID-19 dropped from 619 on Monday to 609 on Tuesday. The high mark was 3,460, set on Nov. 30.

The state said more than 870,000 Hoosiers had been fully vaccinated against COVID-19 as of Wednesday at 5 a.m. More than 1.3 million had received the first dose of a two-dose vaccination.

Following are the latest COVID-19 numbers from the Indiana State Department of Health. The department updates its data daily based on information received through 11:59 p.m. the previous day.

Seven-day positivity rate unique individuals: 8.5%**

Cumulative positivity rate all tests: 9.5%

Seven-day positivity rate all tests: 3.1%**

** The health department reports the 7-day positivity rates with a six-day lag to allow time for more comprehensive results.

First dose administered: 1,325,201 (daily increase of 28,074)

Fully vaccinated: 870,136 (daily increase of 17,984)

Indiana intensive care unit usage

Available ICU beds: 34.1 %

ICU beds in use by COVID-19 patients: 3.9%

Available ventilators: 80.9%

Ventilators in use for COVID-19: 1.3%

*New cases, deaths and tests are previously unreported cases, deaths and tests submitted to the Indiana State Health Department in the 24 hours through 11:59 p.m. the previous day. The cases and testing categories typically contain numerous duplicates—as many as 20% or more—that are later eliminated from the cumulative totals.
