  1. Tariffs/trade war choked off foreign row crop markets, and now diesel/gasoline and fertilizer cost increases squeeze farms from the cost side. And farmers/rural Midwesterners voted overwhelmingly for 47 despite the evidence from his first term that he was not good for ag.

Seems they’re reaping what they sowed.

    1. It’s all intentional. Trump wants to snuff out small family farms so his corporate farm buddies can buy them up and continue to consolidate the agriculture sector. This will obviously end poorly, as one screw-up from a major corporate farm could push the U.S. into famine.

    2. Famine? Hyperbole much? Also interesting the flock of commenters who think Indiana is 40 years “ behind “ is suddenly worried about family farms

Trump doesn’t know what he is going to tweet 10 minutes from now, much less have a grand and evil plan to somehow take over the country’s agriculture

    3. Hey Chuck, I didn’t mention “family farms”. (But for the record my grandfather and uncle were 4th and 5th generation farmers. My cousin is the 6th generation but she rents out the fields, pasture, and barn. And didn’t vote for 47.)

    4. And Chuck, 47 not knowing what he’s doing makes things worse for all of us whether we voted for him or not.

  2. This sounds about like the same article after Russia invaded the Ukraine. Those Ukraine articles also claimed we would have a shortfall of fertilizer.

    1. And we did. It’s one of the reasons food prices spiked. The Fertilizer Price Index jumped to $293.73 after Russia invaded Ukraine.
