  1. The “old way of thinking” is just that, the old way of thinking which has proven time and again it does not work. Not a bleeding heart liberal, just thinking of alternatives instead of maintaining the current cycle of crime, jail, crime, jail (wash, rinse, repeat). How about rehab, support and training, other methods to lessen the cost, lessen the prison population while maintaining some semblence of management while not in prison.

And, good luck to Rep Pierce on his mission to find “the” underlying cause for crime and maybe coming up with some ideas on stopping it.

  2. The underlying cause(s) for crime can be traced to societal and family issues. There were a lot of problems in “the old days”, but growing up, our family never locked the doors on our house, nor our cars. And years before that, newspapers ran “extra’s” when there was a homicide. Can you imagine the Star running a special edition “extra” for every homicide in Indy?!?
