I enjoy reading Marshawn Wolley’s columns in Forefront and appreciate his observations on how Indianapolis is progressing. In particular, I generally agreed with his Sept. 13 column, “Red Line offers hope to residents trying to move up.”

I write, however, to take issue with his comment noting “ … irony in the naming of the Red Line given the legacy of redlining in the black community … .”
I see no connection, and he pointed to none, of this new name to those long-discredited mortgage lending practices. To me, this is a gratuitous example of micro-aggression, which serves no purpose when encouraging all of us to take pride in our new transit system and hoping for its success. I hope Wolley will continue to follow the development of the Red Line and leave out the negative historical implications included in this article.

Thank you for all you do for our community.
