Number of new COVID cases continues to drop in Indiana

The Indiana State Department of Health on Sunday reported 2,565 new cases of COVID-19 and 23 more deaths.

Deaths due to COVID-19 have exceeded single digits for 105 straight days, but the numbers of have generally been falling.

The state said 9,095 new individuals were tested Saturday in Indiana.

Statewide hospitalizations due to COVID-19 dropped to 2,118 on Friday from 2,134 on Thursday. The high mark was 3,460, set on Nov. 30.

The state said more than 434,287 Hoosiers have received their first vaccine shot and more than 98,517 have been fully vaccinated. That’s up from the 87,506 Hoosiers who had been fully vaccinated through Thursday.

Following are the latest COVID-19 numbers from the Indiana State Department of Health. The department updates its data daily based on information received through 11:59 p.m. the previous day.

Total cumulative tested individuals: 2,900,051

Cumulative positivity rate unique individuals: 21.1%

Seven-day positivity rate unique individuals: 18.5%**

Cumulative positivity rate all tests: 10.7%

Seven-day positivity rate all tests: 9.9%**

** The health department reports the 7-day positivity rates with a six-day lag to allow time for more comprehensive results.

First dose administered: 434,287 (increase of 45,889)

Fully vaccinated: 98,517 by Friday (increase of 6,577 from Thursday)

Available ICU beds: 29%

ICU beds in use by COVID-19 patients: 22.1%

Available ventilators: 75.6%

Ventilators in use for COVID-19: 8.7%

*New cases, deaths and tests are previously unreported cases, deaths and tests submitted to the Indiana State Health Department in the 24 hours through 11:59 p.m. the previous day. The cases and testing categories typically contain numerous duplicates—as many as 20% or more—that are later eliminated from the cumulative totals.
