I consider this good news. This area is a nightmare to get through and needs substantial redesign and engineering. Just hope the town doesn’t try to do this “on the cheap” and gets it right the first time i.e. making sure there’s enough capacity to efficiently move traffic through the roundabout.
That peanut round-about is just going to create a big dead space. It sort of reminds me of the plaza in downtown indy, on the east end of the Washington/Maryland one-way two way conversion. There is just dead green space where nothing happens and people are repelled by the traffic whizzing by.
I don’t live in Zionsville, but remember the reason the old town works, is because it was designed for the people living there first and that cars are an afterthought. Embrace the narrow streets and fact that traffic slows down and backs up. I fear that smoothing out and speeding up the traffic will just repel people and attract more cars creating more induced congestion.
