IRT season to include ‘Red,’ ‘Good People’ and Shakespeare

The 2014/15 season for the Indiana Repertory Theatre kicks off in September with "Two Gentlemen of Verona." Shakespeare's comedy may be familiar to some thanks to its production a few summers back by Heartland Actors Repertory Theatre.

Less familiar to others may be "Red," John Logan's compelling look at artist Mark Rothko. The play offers a showcase role for the actor picked for the lead and gives the IRT designers a set of fascinating challenges.

After the return of "A Christmas Carol," the IRT has also selected a hot recent play, David Lindsay-Abaire's "Good People," about a single mother at the end of her rope who squares off against a more successful former classmate. This time, the juciest role goes to the female lead.

School groups should be thrilled about the return of the stage adaptation of "The Giver" and a new production of "The Hound of the Baskervilles." A recent hit at Alliance Theatre in Altanta, Pearl Cleage's "What I Learned in Paris," looks at race, class and gender set in in 1973, when Atlanta elected its first African-American mayor. I'm already anticipating the hair and costume work.

The season ends with Ernest Thompson's theatrical chestnut "On Golden Pond."
