Today’s Start with Art luncheon at the Convention Center unofficially marks the start of the arts season in Indy.

So were you there? If so, what did you think of Col Dean M. Esserman’s talk?

For those who weren’t, Esserman–Chief of Police of Povidence, RI, gave a sombre, almost Cormac McCarthy-ish speech about the need to “invest, not just arrest” when it comes to kid. “We all come from a family,” he said, “but also from a place and time” and argued that “knowledge and success follow love, not fear.”

Your thoughts?

This week also marks IBJ’s first Arts and Entertainment Season Preview, which is included in this week’s IBJ. (Feedback welcome here or by e-mail to If you don’t have one already, you can pick one up at Start with Art or spring for the IBJ’s $1.75 cover price.

It seems the right time to ask: What A&E events are you most looking forward to this season? Is there a particular concert, production, recital, film or exhibition that you already have marked on your calendar?

Of course, arts folks, try to refrain from mentioning events that you are actually involved with.
