CVS v. Walgreen’sA rough economy hasn’t calmed the grudge match between drugstore giants Walgreen Co. and CVS. Both stores are planning new locations at the busy intersection of 86th Street and Ditch Road. CVS plans to build a new store replacing an old Shell gas station at the intersection’s southeast corner, moving from an older-format location a few blocks east. Meanwhile, Walgreen’s has filed plans to build a new pharmacy and retail store on the current home of Aaron-Ruben-Nelson Mortuary, which sits north of 86th Street between a Speedway gas station and a Hardee’s restaurant. The mortuary plans to begin construction soon on a new facility along Michigan Road near 114th Street.
