Giordano’s opening at Illinois Building; steakhouse expected to follow in fall

No need to trek up to the north side anymore for a deep-dish Giordano’s pizza fix.

The Chicago chain’s location at the corner of Illinois and Market streets in the Illinois Building opens for dinner on Tuesday. Normal lunch and dinner hours begin on Saturday, said Jasmin Shaheed-Young, a spokeswoman for building owner Keystone Group.

Giordano’s arrived in Indianapolis in January 2015, at the Rivers Edge Shopping Center on East 82nd Street, and proved so successful that ownership sought out a downtown outpost. Overall, the chain operates 56 restaurants in Illinois, Indiana, Minnesota and Florida, including 51 in the Chicago area.

Keystone bought the Illinois Building in late 2013 and has embarked on a total rehab of the structure.

Another restaurant, Hyde Park Prime Steakhouse, is slated to open there in October, Shaheed-Young said. Founded in 1988, Hyde Park operates 11 high-end steak and seafood restaurants in Ohio, Pennsylvania, Michigan and Florida.

The Illinois Building is set to be anchored by a hotel. The original flag was a Canopy by Hilton, until Keystone backed out of the deal, Hilton said in early January. Keystone expects to announce a new hotel tenant “very soon,” Shaheed-Young said.

Also on the downtown steakhouse front, Red, the Steakhouse has filed construction plans and should begin work on the ground level of the building at 14 W. Maryland St. next week, with an opening in September.

That’s from Jeff Laskowski, who owns the building that last housed the 14 West restaurant.

The 180-seat Indianapolis location will be Red's fourth. Red was founded in 2005 by CEO Brad Friedlander and has two locations in Cleveland and another in Miami Beach, Florida.
