Dawn Food Products Inc. has decided to close a 160-employee bakery in northwestern Indiana.

The company says the bakery in Crown Point will close in phases until being shut down by the end of August. The Jackson,
Mich.-based company says it decided to close the bakery to increase efficiency and that it would expand operations elsewhere.

Crown Point Mayor David Uran says he didn't have any warning from Dawn Food that the bakery might be closed and that
company officials had told him last August the facility wouldn't be affected by restructuring efforts.

The Crown Point bakery opened in 1990 and primarily produces muffins and cinnamon rolls.

Dawn Food vice president Partha Kundu says changes aren't planned for the company's distribution center in nearby
Munster.
