Daniels says the U.S. Senate should support a proposal that would force President Barack Obama to approve the controversial pipeline within two months. Obama decided last month he would wait another year before deciding whether to approve the massive new pipeline.
Indiana Sen. Richard Lugar and other Republican senators submitted their proposal last week. Daniels is supporting the proposal from his new position as the Republican Governor Association's policy chairman.
Supporters say the pipeline would bring much-needed oil from an ally nation and create new jobs. Environmentalists opposing the pipeline say it would damage sensitive habitats and stunt a transition to renewable energy sources.
