Pizza dough plant with 62 workers set to close

A local food plant that produces frozen pizza dough plans to close, ending employment for 62 workers.

San Antonio, Texas-based C.H. Guenther & Son Inc. disclosed in a notice to the Indiana Department of Workforce Development that it plans to close its Frozen Ventures facility in Indianapolis "for business reasons."

Terminations are expected to begin Dec. 10 and last until the end of 2016, the company said. Most of the terminations are expected to take place in March. The facility is leased until Dec. 31, 2016, which means some employees will need to remain until that date.

C.H. Guenther & Son took over the 50,000-square-foot plant at 404 S. Kitley Ave. in 2012 when it bought Frozen Ventures parent Pizza Blends Inc. The production facility was established by Portland, Oregon-based Pizza Blends in 2001.

The company has other production facilities in Portland, Kansas City and Schenectady, New York.
