Republicans set caucus date to decide Jeff Miller replacement

Former Indianapolis City-County councilman Jeff Miller, who resigned earlier this month after pleading guilty to felony battery charges, will have his successor chosen in September.

Marion County GOP Chairman Jim Merritt announced Wednesday that a Republican caucus has been scheduled for Sept. 11 to fill the vacancy in the Council District 16 seat.

The private caucus is scheduled for 6:30 p.m. at Shoefly Public House, 122 E. 22nd St.

“We look forward to nominating an excellent person to fill this important role,” Merritt said in a written statement.

Miller was one of eleven Republicans on the 25-member City-County Council.
