Whitestown Town Manager Dax Norton will join Indianapolis engineering, architectural and planning firm MS Consultants Inc. when he steps down from his public position next week.

Norton announced early this month that he would leave his Whitestown post on Jan. 27, after more than five years in the job, a period during which the community grew significantly both in terms of population and development.

Whitestown was the state’s fastest growing municipality in Indiana seven years in a row (2018 numbers aren’t available yet). It grew 7.6 percent in 2017, to 8,179.

Norton will serve as a municipal administration and management consultant at MS Consultants, which is located in downtown Indianapolis. He will be tasked with helping counties, cities and towns develop systems for day-to-day management of administrative and governance functions.

He will also help those local governments secure financing for capital and economic development projects.

“I am excited to join this great firm as a consultant and use my years of economic development and municipal executive experience to assist current and future MS Consultants’ client municipalities all across Indiana and the MS region,” Norton said in a statement.

Previously, Norton held public-sector positions with the Indiana Office of Community and Rural Affairs, Boone County Economic Development Corporation and Blackford County Economic Development Corporation.
