Why is the skin color of the winner important to “journalists” ?
Because it’s a break in the norm, and a first. I do get weary and wary of working race into so many corners of our daily life, but as I watched the crazy finish and Wallace’s celebration, I wondered and figured the same thing: is this a first? The answer was confirmed: “yes”, and again, worth some note. That’s the job of a journalist. It was a pretty cool win.
It’s an Associated Press article, they always have to throw race in a story. Bubba has won NASCAR races before, just first time he won at IMS, so now they can keep saying the first black until he wins at all tracks, as if it really matters.
Congrats! That was quite the race! One of my best friends is a BIG fan of Bubba Wallace. This really made his day.
