COVID-19 cases top 1,000 in Indiana for third straight day

The Indiana State Department of Health on Friday reported 1,256 new cases of COVID-19, the third day in a row that cases have topped 1,000.

The seven-day moving average of positive cases in Indiana was 988 on Thursday, up from 754 two weeks ago.

Indiana saw an increase of 25,500 reported COVID-19 cases in March, the lowest monthly increase since July.

The state reported 20 new deaths from COVID-19, raising the cumulative total to 12,642.

Indiana saw an increase of 480 reported COVID-19 deaths in March, the smallest monthly increase since September.

The health department reported the testing of 5,674 new individuals. Indiana saw an increase of 142,323 new tested individuals in March, the lowest monthly increase in that category since April.

Statewide hospitalizations due to COVID-19 rose from 677 on Wednesday to 697 on Thursday. The high mark was 3,460, set on Nov. 30.

The state said more than 1.19 million Hoosiers had been fully vaccinated against COVID-19 as of Friday at 5 a.m. More than 1.73 million had received the first dose of a two-dose vaccination.
