A new restaurant will soon be moving into the space once occupied by OP Italian in the JW Marriott Hotel.
Dean’s Steak & Seafood, a modern American steakhouse, is expected to open this fall, Merrillville-based hotel management company White Lodging announced Tuesday.
The restaurant space will be reimagined, with seating for 160 in the main dining room, 25 in a private dining space and 50 at cocktail and oyster bars.
This will be the first Dean’s Steakhouse restaurant in Indianapolis, with three other locations: Dean’s Italian Steakhouses, in Charlotte, North Carolina, and Austin, Texas; and Dean’s Steak & Seafood in San Antonio, Texas.
While the menu for the Indianapolis location is not yet available online, the San Antonio location offers breakfast, brunch, lunch, dinner and dessert options, as well as a full beverage menu.
Steak options include Japanese A5 Wagyu ($100-$125) or various prime cuts ($42-$90). Seafood options include surf-and-turf, a variety of oyster offerings and the “Grand Plateau,” which includes 12 oysters, 8 shrimp, 12 ounces of Alaskan King Crab and lobster cocktail for $200. Dessert offerings include a tableside baked Alaska ($17) and Brush Creek bourbon bread pudding ($14).
The restaurant’s decor will be familiar to those who frequent steakhouses: dark woods, brass accents, deep reds and blues for the walls. And all the art will be curated from the White family’s personal archives.
“We’ve created a place where visitors can experience the very best of Indianapolis hospitality, and where locals will want to gather again and again,” JW Marriott Indianapolis general manager Phil Ray said in a written statement. “We’re proud to continue raising the bar downtown and Dean’s is a natural next step.”
Founded in northwest Indiana in 1985, White Lodging over saw the construction and management of the JW Marriott Indianapolis in 2011, the largest such hotel in the world, according to the company.
The 33-story JW Marriott has 1,013 guest rooms and more than 103,000 square feet of event space.

Oh boy, another steak house! When is Harmony opening again?
All those steakhouses do just fine! Bring ‘em on!
Is that about a dozen of ’em downtown?
Let’s see…St. Elmo, Harry & Izzy, Weber Grill, Ruth’s Chris, Prime 47, Capital Grille, Fogo de Chao, Tony’s, Del Frisco’s, McCormick & Schmick’s, Commission Row. That’s 11 open now, all within 3 blocks of Monument Circle. Add Harmony and Dean’s and that’s a baker’s dozen.
That’s a lot of lobbyist dinners.
I wouldn’t include Weber and McCormick & Schmick’s steakhouses, but agree, it’s a lot.
