Indiana COVID-19 cases hit lowest mark since September

The Indiana State Department of Health on Thursday reported 786 new cases of COVID-19, the lowest number since Sept. 29. The daily count has fallen below 1,000 for four days in a row after more than four months above that level.

The state also reported 29 new deaths due to the coronavirus. Reported deaths due to COVID-19 have exceeded single digits in 129 of the past 130 days.

The department said 3,640 new individuals were tested Wednesday, the lowest number since May 13.

Statewide hospitalizations due to COVID-19 ticked up from 955 on Tuesday to 966 on Wednesday. The high mark was 3,460, set on Nov. 30.

The state said more than 377,300 Hoosiers had been fully vaccinated against COVID-19 as of Thursday at 5 a.m. More than 851,300 had received the first dose of a vaccination.

Following are the latest COVID-19 numbers from the Indiana State Department of Health. The department updates its data daily based on information received through 11:59 p.m. the previous day.

** The health department reports the 7-day positivity rates with a six-day lag to allow time for more comprehensive results.

*New cases, deaths and tests are previously unreported cases, deaths and tests submitted to the Indiana State Health Department in the 24 hours through 11:59 p.m. the previous day. The cases and testing categories typically contain numerous duplicates—as many as 20% or more—that are later eliminated from the cumulative totals.
