  1. I’ve never seen a CEO push so hard to have their company follow such past leaders as MySpace and SecondCity into oblivion. But I guess X marks the spot where Elon did this.

    1. This is what happens when a company soils its reputation.

      It’s akin to what often plays out when apartment complexes are bought slum lords who allow their properties to deteriorate. Before long, the slumlord will come along with cheap renovations and rename the building in an attempt to distance themselves from all the bad will that they created.

    2. It does look cruddy. The bird was/is cute, and deceptively innocuous given Twitter’s capacity to foment civil wars.

      But hey, negative publicity is still publicity.

      Threads is already basically defunct, having shed 25% of its engagement in the space of about 10 days. So your analogy to MySpace would be more applicable when applied to Meta’s latest foray. (Except of course that MySpace had a really sweet 2-year run. Threads was sweet for about 2 weeks.)

  2. What an absolutely insane choice. Why did he even buy Twitter?

    It sounds like he already had a brand, and only needed 1/10 of their employees. Why didn’t he just make a start-up on his own?
