Bob P. There’s 55 corporations making in excess of $1 billion revenue paying no taxes. Wealthy individuals have so many tax breaks they virtually pay no taxes. Trump and his adding $7.8 trillion to the deficit gave away trillions to the wealthy.

Bob, you have no way of knowing if “died-in-the-wool” Democrats constitute a majority of those who benefit from “government-sponsored giveaways” because political affiliations are not notes in tax returns or beneficiary statements of those who receive government benefits. But nice try to paint a broad, baseless claim to win your point. You undermine any claim of credibility with such inane remarks.
I figured this was a political stunt and the President had no legal right to forgive those loans. We are letting our Presidents of either party make too many important decisions that should be made by Congress. Executive orders, emergency powers or whatever trick is used, the President certainly has the most important role in the country, but he or she is not supposed to be the sole Decider-in-Chief.
Thank you! I hope this is not overturned. Anyone making more than $60k annually should be able to make student loan payments or they shouldn’t have signed for the loans.
I am glad to see this, so wrong on so many fronts. My daughter is a freshman in college and worked 50+ hours during the summer to save enough to pay for her 1st semester and not take out any loans. I also sacrificed to help pay for her and her older brother’s college. But others that took out loans get it for free? I can think of many things I could have done with that money…
People should pay their own loans. Why should people who did not go to college, or those who paid their own way, be made to pay for others? Address the real problem; colleges increasing tuition at 3-4 times the rate of inflation over the last 40 years.
Dominic, if you own your own home and have a mortgage, you are not paying your own way as the tax code gives you a generous mortgage interest deduction. If you don’t have a mortgage, but plan on living to age 95, you will receive far more in social security payments than you paid into the program. Yep, nothing like “paying your way…”
Many studies have shown the student loan debts have caused young people to delay marriages, have children or do the once normal things that young people have done for generations. Those delayed marriages, no children decisions have reduced the number of people looking to buy homes or the appliances, and furniture that follow the first home. A very beneficial side effect of the President’s student loan forgiveness plan will be an economic boost to our country. The Trump judges, with their radical views on the law, are damaging our country and will for years.
Justice Amy Coney Barrett, a Trump appointee, refused to block the loan forgiveness program when a lawsuit was filed with the Supreme Court. But, another Trump appointee in a lower court in Texas strikes down the suit. So now the Biden DOJ appeals that ruling to, you guessed it, the Supreme Court. Sounds like the Trump judge in Texas was looking to curry favor with Trump in the hopes that Trump runs for president again, wins, and will remember him when it comes time to fill a future vacancy on the high court. Yep, sounds about right…
