The primary will be the first in a dozen years that the ticket won’t be led by a statewide office. But county races are on the ballot and so are all 100 seats in the Indiana House of Representatives and half of the state’s 50 Senate seats.
The Hoosier state added 4,600 jobs in the manufacturing sector in January, the most in the country. But Indiana also lost 7,100 private sector jobs, leaving the state at a net loss of 2,500 jobs for the month.
The bill passed 55-40 and now returns to the Indiana Senate, which has already passed the bill and can now approve changes made by the House or send the bill to a conference committee for further consideration.
The Indiana Senate shot down two proposed amendments to the pre-K education bill Monday, before finally accepting an amendment to add another member to the study commission.
House Bill 1039, authored by Matt Lehman, R-Berne, would create an 11-member commission to continue to endorse the current “Indiana Grown” initiative.
The proposed amendment to ban same-sex marriage in Indiana easily passed a House committee Wednesday, setting up the floor debate that Speaker Brian Bosma had promised.
Indiana House Speaker Brian Bosma said he’s considering ways to move a constitutional same-sex marriage amendment out of committee and onto the House floor. He said an internal poll found 80 percent of voters want to cast a ballot on the issue.
