Indianapolis police Deputy Chief Craig McCartt said the gunman arrived at the facility shortly after 11 p.m. in a car and almost immediately began “randomly” shooting at people in the parking lot with a rifle.
The chairman of FedEx said Friday that eight of the people who died in a mass shooting at one of the company’s facilities in Indianapolis late Thursday night were employees.
In addition to the nine deaths reported overnight at FedEx, at least four other Indiana deaths and four injuries have resulted from workplace shootings since mid-2015 in Indiana.

The Gun Violence Archive says 147 mass shootings have occurred so far in 2021. Their definition of mass shooting is a minimum of four gunshot victims.

FedEx will skip special charges for most packages shipped during the holiday season this year as it seeks to undercut rival UPS in a fight for a larger share of the millions of items now bought online.
The settlements bring the total FedEx has paid resolve driver compensation claims to at least $454 million.
That’s important for Indianapolis International, where cargo represents a significant portion of landing weight. And landing fees that airports charge carriers are weight-based.
FedEx Corp. and United Parcel Service Inc. expect to set another record for packages handled this holiday season, fueled by an estimated 17 percent jump in online spending. Indianapolis is home to FedEx’s second-busiest package hub.
