Some southern Indiana communities are worried about the economic impact of CSX Transportation's decision to stop running
trains on a 62-mile rail line.
CSX won permission from a federal board to discontinue service on the route between New Albany and Bedford as of last month.
Documents show that the only active shipper on the line didn't use it during 2009 and that CSX expected to lose at least
$310,000 on it this year.
But Mitchell Mayor Dan Terrell says he's worried that the loss of rail service will hurt efforts to attract businesses.
He said the Lawrence County city was looking at how it could buy a 10-mile section of the line north to Bedford that would
connect with an east-west line that still operates through Mitchell.
