Terre Haute Sgt. Chris Gallagher says states that have relied on electronic tracking of cold medicine sales have had many more clandestine meth labs than those where prescriptions are required.
The Tribune-Star reports state Sen. Tim Skinner and Rep. Clyde Kersey told a Terre Haute Area Chamber of Commerce session that they supported bills pending in the Legislature to make the medicines by prescription only.
Indiana State Police last year started an electronic tracking system, but Gallagher says meth cookers find ways to get around the purchase limits and electronic tracking.
