Purdue said Tuesday that its President, France Cordova, has signed an agreement with Beihang University's president to form the two joint laboratories. One will focus on energy systems and the other on low emissions combustion.
The two Chinese-based labs will combine Purdue's strengths in computational modeling and Beihang's strengths in experimentation. Purdue says increasing energy efficiency and reducing noise and emissions are the most critical issues for improving gas turbines.
Pennsylvania State University and the U.S. Department of Energy also are involved in the energy systems laboratory.
