SHELBY COUNTY Puck’s set to open restaurant at expanded Indiana Downs

Hollywood, Beverly Hills, Las Vegas and … Shelbyville, Ind.

That’s right. Shelbyville will actually have something in common with those glitzy cities when celebrity chef Wolfgang Puck opens a restaurant in the expanded Indiana Downs “racino.”

Puck will open his 17th Puck’s restaurant as one of two eateries that will accompany the 2,000 slot machines going into the horse track. The expansion will also feature three lounges and other amenities.

“From the moment you pull up under the awning, you’re going to feel like you’re in Las Vegas,” said Shelbyville Mayor Scott Furgeson.

The Austrian-born Puck opened his first restaurant in Indiana in 2005 at the Indianapolis Museum of Art.

But Puck has also shown an affinity for casinos. His company has five restaurants in Las Vegas, all in or connected to casinos such as Caesar’s. Puck also has one restaurant at an Atlantic City casino.

Furgeson hopes the restaurant and the entire project make Shelbyville a bona fide tourist attraction.

“When people think about going out on a Friday night, they don’t think about going to Shelbyville,” he said. “But I think this will help.”
