As a subscriber you can listen to articles at work, in the car, or while you work out. Subscribe NowTerre Haute's Union Hospital is investing $100,000 in Marian University's new College of Osteopathic Medicine, becoming the sixth Indiana hospital to back the institution.
Union Hospital president and chief executive Scott Teffeteller announced the gift last week. He said Marian's medical students will be encouraged to seek clerkships in medically underserved areas across Indiana in the hope that they will remain in those communities and address a growing shortage of doctors there.
Other hospitals backing the project include Community Health Network, Vincennes' Good Samaritan Hospital, Indianapolis St. Francis and St. Vincent Health.
The college will be Indiana's first new medical school in more than 100 years.
