As a subscriber to IBJ for over three years now, I was rather disappointed to read item No. 7 (How dicey will your family feast be? Check the map.) on your list of eight newsworthy topics [in the Nov. 19 Eight@8 email]. In particular, your idea of telling people to “… chill out this year. Have a whole sugar cream pie to yourself. Relish the absence of awkward conversations. Wait until next year …”

I subscribe to IBJ to learn news updates in Indiana and how any news outside of our state affects us. Regarding COVID updates specifically, I expect to hear news around how downtown Indianapolis is struggling to survive, the reason behind businesses having to board up their windows, the negative effect of the forced closures and restrictions on businesses and the lack of positive results coming from those restrictions. I don’t subscribe to Eight@8 for you to tell me to chill out and not attend a Thanksgiving gathering. I hope your readers share the same perspective as me and would never let a publication or a government official tell them how to spend their holidays with their families.

  1. As a subscriber for over 5 years, I am happy that IBJ reports information to protect public health and the economy. I also appreciate their coverage of the struggles Downtown Indianapolis has been facing. I listen to what doctors tell me to do, which is why my family skipped Thanksgiving this year. Hopefully we’ll all be alive to enjoy it next year.
