More money added to plan for State Fair victims

An Indiana Senate committee is increasing to $11 million the total of state money being directed to victims of last summer's deadly stage collapse at the Indiana State Fair.

The Senate's Appropriations Committee on Thursday approved a proposal adding $1 million to the $5 million in additional money previously approved by the House. That $6 million would go beyond the state's $5 million liability cap that's already been distributed to the 58 stage-collapse victims who filed claims with the state.

Committee Chairman Luke Kenley of Noblesville says he is concerned about those injured who are facing long-term medical costs. He says the state attorney general's office will be working on a method for distributing the additional money.

The additional $6 million still needs approval from the full Senate and House.
