Ticket sales for Newfields’ multisensory exhibit open to public July 6

A multisensory digital exhibit that will put visitors in the center of floor-to-ceiling projections of paintings such as “The Starry Night” and “Sunflowers” by Vincent van Gogh will open July 27 at Newfields.

 “The Lume” will take up the entire fourth floor of the museum and cover the area in images with the help of 150 projectors. In addition to the art itself, there will be a choreographed soundtrack and special fragrances. 

The exhibit will annually rotate featured artists—well-known masters as well as new, local and diverse artists.

“We are beyond thrilled to bring this incredible, groundbreaking, technology-fueled experience to the Indianapolis Museum of Art at Newfields,”  Darrianne Christian, chairwoman of the Newfields Board of Trustees, said in a press release.

Christian said the exhibit is a representation of Newfields’ “commitment to the community to become an empathetic, multi-cultural and anti-racist institution.” 

The new exhibit opens after a Newfields job posting earlier this year drew complaints of racism and prompted the resignation of the art center’s director.

Newfields members can purchase $20 tickets now for “The Lume.” Ticket sales open to nonmembers on July 6 at $25.  

The multisensory experience was created by Australia-based Grande Experiences.
