Indiana Wesleyan University President Henry Smith will retire next June 30 and become the school's chancellor for 2½ years.

The Marion-based school announced the transition for Smith on Monday. It also says his last six months as president will be spent on sabbatical beginning Jan. 7. Its board of trustees says a three-man management team will run the university during Smith's sabbatical.

Indiana Wesleyan says Smith will focus on international education while chancellor until the end of 2015, which will be shortly after his 65th birthday.

It says the enrollment grew during his seven years as president to nearly 16,000 students. That includes more than 12,000 adults attending classes at branches in Indiana, Kentucky and Ohio and online. More than 3,000 students are enrolled on the main campus in Marion.
