Suspected car thief nabbed after chase

Police arrested a 19-year-old driver following a high-speed chase and crash in Greenwood on Friday morning. Jimmy Roger Smith is accused of stealing a 2005 Acura from a garage in a Center Grove home sometime before 4 a.m. Greenwood police saw the vehicle fleeing the scene of another residential break-in at about 5:25 a.m. and gave chase. The pursuit ended a few minutes later when Smith’s vehicle, which reached speeds topping 100 mph, left the road and went airborne into an office building near Howard and Fry roads. Smith, who was apprehended after a brief foot chase, told police he thought he was overdosing on methamphetamine.
