An Indianapolis startup looking to elbow its way into the world of smartphone applications has launched a photo app called Sherish.

The company is also called Sherish, and the app allows users to store and share pictures privately. Its founders said that, unlike Dropbox and other virtual hard drives, Sherish is photo-focused and its interface encourages user engagement.

“Pictures are meant for fulfillment, not storage,” co-founder and CEO Alan Stanford said.

The company is led by Stanford, a 74-year-old serial entrepreneur, and co-founder Jared Brown, its 33-year-old chief technology officer. The company started in 2013 and debuted its app in May.

The Sherish app allows for swipe gestures, voice tags, remote printing and more. It costs about $5 a month for unlimited storage and targets parents wary of managing their photo collections on social media.

Stanford said investors have poured $1 million into the company.
