The Indiana Municipal Power Agency has opened its ninth solar park—this one in Pendleton—and is now producing a total of 13 megawatts of power using solar in the state.

“IMPA welcomed the opportunity to expand our power supply and bring the benefits of renewable energy to Pendleton,” said Raj Rao, president and CEO of IMPA, in a statement after a ribbon-cutting ceremony in Pendleton. “The addition of more solar parks throughout the state not only provides an educational impact to IMPA’s member communities, but serves to bolster our already diverse portfolio, reinforcing our goal to provide municipally owned utilities with a power supply that is low-cost, reliable and environmentally responsible.”

The IMPA Pendleton Solar Park is on 16 acres of land and is composed of more than 8,000 panels. The facility can produce up to 2 megawatts of energy, or enough to power 300-400 homes.

Other IMPA solar parks are in the Indiana communities of Argos, Bainbridge, Crawfordsville, Frankton, Peru, Rensselaer, Richmond and Tell City. IMPA plans to develop a solar park in each of the 60 communities it serves with wholesale electric power.

“This is an exciting time for solar energy in our state,” Rao said. “IMPA is proud to be one of the utilities leading the way for solar in Indiana.”•
