As a subscriber you can listen to articles at work, in the car, or while you work out. Subscribe NowArea builders continued to see rising demand for new homes in April, according to a report released Thursday by the Builders Association of Greater Indianapolis.
Builders filed 674 permits in the nine-county area during the month, up 20 percent over the 561 permits that were filed in April 2017.
It was also the busiest April for permit filings since 2007, when 780 were filed.
Area filings have been on the rise in 27 of the last 29 months on a year-over-year basis.
On a year-to-date basis, permit filings are up 27 percent, from 1,871 in the first four months of 2017 to 2,372 during the same period this year.
Marion County saw a 36 percent increase in filings in April, from 99 to 135.
Hamilton County led the area in filings with 270, an increase of 28 percent from the previous April.
Hendricks County saw 90 filings in April, down 5 percent.
Filings dipped by 7 percent in Johnson County, to 63. They rose 52 percent in Boone County, to 44.
Filings were up 22 percent in Hancock County, to 44.
Permits fell from 16 to 8 in Morgan County. They rose from six to 14 in Shelby County and from one to six in Madison County.
