Peterson Architecture founder Darren Peterson was sworn in Tuesday night as a Noblesville City Council member.

Monday night, Peterson was picked by a Hamilton County GOP caucus to succeed Mary Sue Rowland, who resigned from the position last month.

Rowland, who was Noblesville's mayor from 1988 until 1996, was serving her third term on the council. Her first two terms ran from 2004 to 2012, and she was elected again in 2015. Her current term expires at the end of 2019.

In the caucus, Peterson ran against Noblesville entrepreneur and real estate developer Rocky Shanehsaz and resident Mike Davis.

Peterson is active in the community through Nickel Plate Arts, Noblesville Main Street, Keep Noblesville Beautiful and the Noblesville Chamber of Commerce. He had already announced plans to run for an at-large seat in the May 2019 primary when Rowland resigned.

“Being on the other side of the podium across the country presenting ideas to councils and communities makes me a valuable addition and resource to the council,” Peterson said in written comments. “In order to fulfill a 14-month term, I have the experience to quickly understand presentations and communicate the best practices from around the country, using the context of active engagement with the Noblesville community.”
