T&H Investment Properties LLC
Jana Hageman’s companies—T&H Investment Properties, T&H Construction Properties and T&H Management Properties—develop, build and manage affordable and market-rate housing, with a focus on affordable housing. “I absolutely love what I do,” she said. “I basically get to help make things better for people, and that’s a pretty amazing job.” Hageman’s company has developed eight affordable-housing communities in Indianapolis in the past six years and redeveloped 55 single-family houses in Haughville. “We delivered a lot of affordable housing to people who really needed it, and we were able to set aside units for people suffering from homelessness and people with intellectual and developmental disabilities.”
Getting here: Hageman started her career as a real estate attorney at Bose
McKinney and Evans and left the law firm to start her own development company in 2012. “I learned a lot about what to do and not do, but my background in real estate law was a crucial component to my success.”
First job: waitressing at a hotel/resort in her hometown
Givebacks: “Honestly, I feel like my career is both a career and my way to give back to the community through affordable housing,” she says. But she does serve on a few boards, including Riley Hospital for Children, which she says is her favorite.
Meaningful moment: “My first big failure, where I put a year of my life into one project and didn’t get it, was a pivotal moment for me. Also, when our team came together and solved one of the most challenging situations our industry has seen on a project, and we did it the right way, with good results. Most of the big moments have been coming out on the other side of some big challenges, gaining confidence, resiliency and seeing the team make it out well together.”•
