Bloomington getting doughnuts
Dunkin Donuts has filed plans to open a restaurant next to the IU campus in Bloomington.
The Massachusetts-based chain plans to take about 2,000 square feet in the former Von Lee Theater at 517 E. Kirkwood Ave., next to Colorado-based Noodles & Co. The
Von Lee project also includes two floors of space now occupied by university offices.
Tartan Realty Group of Chicago redeveloped the 1920s movie house early last year after the property sat vacant for more than five years. The company saved the theater’s façade and awning and added a replica of the original neon sign.
A few blocks away on Kirkwood, Tartan replaced the old Jiffy Treet building next door to Nick’s English Hut with a new retail, office and apartment building anchored by California-based Panda Express.
