School choice segregates

Reflecting on the [May 13] article “Trying to Reclaim a Legacy,” please don’t forget another group of people who took a risk: the taxpayers. A multi-million dollar bond issue was approved for much-needed renovations at Arlington, Howe and Manual. Now these 300,000-square-foot facilities sit with idle classrooms.

School choice across the nation has led to segregation by choice—the haves and the have-nots. Unfortunately, from Indianapolis to New Orleans and beyond, the education-reform people haven’t figured out what to do with the have-nots.
