Animal control shuts down ‘bunny ranch’

Neighbors of a south-side home in the 7000 block of Alston Drive are relieved that nearly 400 rabbits have been removed from the premises. Indianapolis Animal Care and Control officers raided the home Tuesday to find the rabbits confined to a garage and shed, both littered with feces. Breeder Richard Cartheuser had been warned a month earlier by authorities to improve the animals’ living conditions, after a neighbor complained about the smell. It was not immediately clear whether Cartheuser would face charges.
