A former bookkeeper has received a nine-year sentence for stealing more than $680,000 from the central Indiana medical practice that employed her.

Marion County Prosecutor Terry Curry says a judge Thursday ordered Karen Armacost to serve six years in prison and three years on probation.

Armacost last month pleaded guilty to theft, forgery and trying to obtaining a controlled substance by fraud or deceit.

Prosecutors said the 53-year-old forged hundreds of checks and took credit card payments between 2007 and 2012 from bank accounts maintained by Greenwood Orthopaedics.

The practice discovered the fraud after her July 2012 termination for presenting a forged prescription for the painkiller Vicodin at an Indianapolis pharmacy.

A son, Austin Armacost, appeared on reality TV show "The A-List: New York" on the Logo channel.
