Firefighters battle large blaze at Shelbyville factory

Firefighters are battling a fire at Knauf Insulation in Shelbyville that has been burning since early this morning, according to our newsgathering partner WISH-TV Channel 8.

 

Knauf, founded in 1978, began a $200 million renovation of the plant in 2005. It makes thermal and acoustical fiberglass insulation for residential, commercial and industrial building applications.

 

The factory employees about 800. No major injuries have been reported.

 

The fire is reported to have begun in the offices in the oldest part of the factory. Employees who were there at that time were evacuated safely.

 

Crews from Shelbyville, Hancock County, Sugar Creek, Greensburg, Greenwood, Morristown, and Fairland were all on the scene.

 

The cause of the fire is unknown.
